In order to use your Drummer instrument (eg. 80s Drummer, 70s Drummer, 60s Drummer, Modern Drummer, or Studio Drummer) with multi-outputs in Kontakt, it is necessary to first configure the Kontakt Output mixer to include multiple output channels. In this article, we will use Studio Drummer to demonstrate how this works.
- Open Kontakt in your DAW, click the Workspace icon, and tick Outputs to make the mixer visible at the bottom of the Kontakt interface.
- As the Kontakt Output mixer contains one stereo channel (st. 1) by default, it is necessary to add more Kontakt output channels for their use with Studio Drummer. Click the + button to add more channels to the Kontakt mixer. Studio Drummer consists of 11 stereo channels (Kick, Snare, etc.) so it is necessary to create at least 11 stereo channels ranging from st. 1 to st. 11 in the Kontakt Output mixer. - At the bottom of each channel, a button represents the current Kontakt output channel assignments. Click on it to open the Kontakt channel configuration window and configure the signal path destination for each channel. For specific information on how to connect the Kontakt physical out channels to AUX channels in your DAW, please refer to this article (example: Logic Pro).
- Load an instance of Studio Drummer in Kontakt. Now that Kontakt is set up with multiple outputs, it is necessary to connect the individual Studio Drummer mixer channels to each Kontakt output channel.
- Click on the SETTINGS tab within Studio Drummer and select the KICK channel. Click into the OUTPUT drop-down menu and assign the KICK channel to the first Kontakt output channel (st. 1). Next, select the SNARE channel and assign it to st.2. Follow the same procedure for the remaining instrument channels.
Studio Drummer is now set up for multi-output use within Kontakt.
