In this article, we demonstrate how to configure MASCHINE in order to trigger a Group's Sounds using the MIDI tracks in Cubase.
Click the preferred method below to reveal the steps.
Changing the Key Mode of a Group
This is the simplest method to quickly set a MASCHINE instance to respond to sequences recorded in Cubase's MIDI tracks. Follow the steps below:
- Launch Cubase.
- Create an Instrument track with MASCHINE 2 loaded on it.
- Load a Group Kit in MASCHINE and navigate to the Group configuration page by clicking on the Channel Icon.
- In Input > MIDI, change the Key Mode to Drumkit.
- You should now be able to trigger and record sequences for each Sound loaded in the Group using each note in the range of C2 to D#3.
Assigning MIDI Tracks to Individual Sounds in a Group
Assigning MIDI Channels to each Sound in MASCHINE will allow you to record sequences for each Sound loaded in a Group into separate MIDI tracks. In order to configure this, follow the steps below:
- Launch Cubase.
- Create an Instrument track with MASCHINE loaded on it.
- Create 16 MIDI tracks and name them as desired. In our example below, we are naming them after the Sounds loaded in MASCHINE.
- Click to select the first new MIDI track.
- In the Inspector, select Maschine2-EventInput as an Output Target and assign each MIDI track to individual MIDI channels, from 1 through 16 in ascending order. In our example, MIDI Track 1 is assigned to Channel 1, MIDI Track 2 to Channel 2, and so on.
- Open the MASCHINE plug-in window to load a Group Kit and click the Channel Icon to access the Sound's configuration pane.
- Select Input > MIDI, then change the Source to Host and the Channel to 1.
- Repeat the previous step for each Sound loaded in the Group, assigning the Channel to its corresponding number (e.g. Sound 2 to Channel 2, Sound 3 to Channel 3, etc.).
- Each MIDI track now respectively triggers each Sound in the loaded Group. Instruments and drum samples can be played chromatically on each track. To play Drum samples at their original pitch, trigger the C3 note.
Note: If you want to assign each MASCHINE Sounds to separate outputs in Cubase, please follow the steps in this video.
