Symptom
The Maschine application unexpectedly crashes at startup or during usage.
Solutions
Click on the operating system you are using to reveal the appropriate solutions listed below.
macOS
1. Enable Full Disk Access
On macOS, Native Instruments products and the audio software they are used with require Full Disk Access in order to function correctly.
Please grant Full Disk Access to all NI apps, NTKDaemon and other audio software (incl. your DAW):
- Open your Mac System Preferences and click Security & Privacy.
- Under the Privacy tab, choose Full Disk Access from the sidebar.
- Click the lock icon in the bottom left of the window and enter your macOS password.

Scroll the list of apps to find Maschine tick the box.
If Maschine does not appear in this list, click the + icon and navigate to the following location on your computer:
Macintosh HD > Applications > Native Instruments > Maschine 2 > Maschine 2.app - Additionally, if you are using Maschine as a plug-in, make sure that your DAW is also added to the list.
- Once finished, click the lock icon again to close it.
Note: the look of the Full Disk settings can vary depending on your macOS version. - Restart your computer.
- Reopen the Maschine software to check that the issue has been resolved.
If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps below.
2. Reinitialize the Maschine Database
- Go to the following location on your computer:
Macintosh HD > Users > *Your User Name* > Library > Application Support > Native Instruments
Note: The User Library folder is hidden. See this article for instructions to access hidden macOS folders.
- Search through the Native Instruments folder at this location to find the Maschine 2 folder.
- Delete only the Maschine 2 folder found here.
Note: Deleting other NI product folders could result in unexpected behavior with other applications.
- Reopen the Maschine software to check that the issue has been resolved.
If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps below.
3. Delete the User Preference (PLIST) File
- Go to the following location on your computer:
Macintosh HD > Users > *Your User Name* > Library > Preferences
Note: The User Library is a hidden folder on macOS. See this article for instructions to access hidden macOS folders.
- Search through the Preferences folder at this location, to find the plist file for Maschine . The plist file will be named in this format:
com.native-instruments.Maschine 2.plist - Delete the plist file.
Note: Deleting other plist files could result in unexpected behavior with other applications.
- Reboot your computer and reopen the Maschine software to check that the issue has been resolved.
If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps below.
4. Remove and Reinstall Maschine
Note: This will not affect your DAW projects or saved NI documents. Reinstalling to the same computer does not affect your allowed number of authorizations. See this article for more info about allowed authorizations. To fix common issues, it's usually not necessary to uninstall Expansions or sample libraries. You can safely keep your sample library folders in place.
If the solutions listed above did not solve the problem, please try to completely remove and reinstall the Maschine software by following these steps:
1. Please remove the following files and folders from your system:
Application Files
- Macintosh HD > Applications > Native Instruments > Maschine 2 (folder)
- Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > com.native-instruments.Maschine 2.plist
Plug-in Files
- Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Plug-ins > Components > Maschine 2.component
- Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Plug-ins > VST > Maschine 2.vst
- Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Plug-Ins > VST3 > Maschine 2.vst3
- Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Avid > Audio > Plug-ins > Maschine 2.aaxplugin
App-specific Data and Support Files
- Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Native Instruments > Maschine 2 (folder)
- Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Native Instruments > Service Center > Maschine 2.xml
- Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Native Instruments > Hardware (folder)
Preferences Files (User Library)
- Macintosh HD > Users > *Your User Name* > Library > Preferences > com.native-instruments.Maschine 2.plist
- Macintosh HD > Users > *Your User Name* > Library > Application Support > Native Instruments > Maschine 2 (folder)
Note: the User Library folder is hidden. To access it, click on Go in the menu bar and press down the Alt key.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Once the Maschine software has been removed, it can be re-downloaded using Native Access. Please see this article for more info.
4. Reopen the Maschine software to check that the issue has been resolved.

Windows
To resolve these crashes on Windows, follow these steps:
1. Delete the USER Registry Entry
- Click the Windows Start button at the bottom left side of your screen.
- Type "regedit" into the search field, then press Enter to open the Windows Registry Editor.
- In the Registry Editor, navigate the folder structure to this location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Native Instruments > Maschine 2 (Folder)
- Delete only the Maschine folder found here.
Note: Deleting the incorrect folder could result in unexpected behavior with other applications, and possibly your operating system.
- Close the Registry Editor and reopen the Maschine software to check that the issue has been resolved. If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps below.
2. Reinitialize the Maschine Database
- In the Windows File Explorer, go to the following location on your computer:
C: > Users > *Your Username* > AppData > Local > Native Instruments
Note: The "AppData" folder is hidden. See this article for instructions to access hidden Windows folders.
- Search through the Native Instruments folder at this location to find the Maschine 2 folder.
- Delete only the Maschine 2 folder found here.
Note: Deleting other NI product folders could result in unexpected behavior with other applications.
- Reopen the Maschine software to check that the issue has been resolved. If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps below.
3. Update Windows
- Click the Windows Start button at the bottom left side of your screen.
- Type 'windows updates' into the search field, then press Enter.
- Install all available updates presented in the Windows Update menu.
- Once all Windows updates have been installed, restart the computer.
- Reopen the Maschine software to check that the issue has been resolved. If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps below.
