When trying to run a NI Downloader from the root directory of a hard drive on a Windows computer, you will receive the following error message: Could not create folder ".". Access is denied.
The root directory is the first or top-most directory on a hard drive (e.g. the C: drive on Windows). To avoid this issue, move the downloader to any other location (e.g. the Desktop) on your computer and launch it from there. On an external hard drive, all the files and folders are generally located in the root directory. In this case, you can create a new folder—name it for instance "NI Downloaders"—then move the NI Downloader to this new folder and launch it from there.
