This article explains how to check and adjust the tuning settings in Kontakt, both globally as well as within the particular Piano Instrument. This applies to the following Kontakt Instruments from the Classic Piano Collection:
- Berlin Concert Grand
- New York Concert Grand
- Vienna Concert Grand
- Upright Piano
Adjusting Kontakt's Instrument and Master Tuning Settings
- Start by checking the Tune knob in the Instrument's Header to make sure it is set correctly. When set to zero, your Kontakt Instrument will be tuned at 440Hz. Some of the Piano Instruments such as Upright Piano and Vienna Concert Grand
are intentionally detuned to reproduce the character of the original instrument. - Then check Kontakt's Master Tune setting which determines the tuning of all Instruments loaded in the Rack. To access the Master Tune knob, tick Master in the Workspace Menu in Kontakt's Main Control Panel. By default the Master Tune it is set to 440Hz.
Adjusting the Tuning Settings of your Piano Instrument
If your Piano Instrument still sounds out of tune after having checked Kontakt's general tuning settings, you must now have a look at the Piano Instrument's Tuning settings. You can choose a variety of Tunings (Equal Temperament, Stretched Tuning, etc.) from within the Piano-Instruments Input Options. Each of these is suited for a particular application: Equal Temperament is for instance used when playing with other instruments. You will find a detailed explanation of the different tuning settings in the respective Piano Library's manual. It is located in the Documentation folder within the respective Piano Library's folder on your hard drive.
