This article explains how to sample audio from an Audio or Instrument track directly into the Maschine 2 plug-in with Pro Tools 12 (and higher). In this example, we show you how to sample from an Audio track.
- Create a new Audio track and load it with the audio content you wish to sample into Maschine.
- Assign a SEND from the Audio track to Bus 1-2 (Stereo).
- Create a new Instrument track and insert Maschine 2 as a plug-in.
Note: See this article for more information on inserting NI plug-ins into Pro Tools.
- Set the audio input of the Maschine Instrument track to receive audio from Bus 1-2 (Stereo).
- Set the output volume of the Audio track Bus 1-2 (Stereo) to 0 dB. To access the Send volume slider, click on the tab labeled Bus 1-2 within the SENDS area of the Audio track.
- In Maschine, go to the SAMPLING section. Under INPUT, set the SOURCE to Ext. Ster. The INPUT is received via In 1 L+R by default. You can set this as needed, depending on your configuration.
- Start the playback on the Pro Tools Audio track containing the audio you want to sample with Maschine. The amplitude will be visible on the level meter. Click the Start button next to it to start sampling.
- Click Stop to finish recording. The recorded sample will appear in the Waveform display. It's named after the date and time of the recording (e.g. 20211004T190014 in the example below). The sample is automatically stored in your Maschine 2 Documents folder.
All samples that have been recorded during this session are displayed in the Recording History section as mini waveforms. These can be dragged and dropped to other Maschine Sound slots, or they can be deleted by clicking on the small X in the upper right-hand corner of the box.
