Using the KOMPLETE KONTROL Keyboard as Stand-Alone MIDI Controller

You can use the KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series keyboard as a stand-alone MIDI controller without USB-connection and connect your external MIDI equipment to the 5-pin MIDI ports on the KOMPLETE KONTROL S-SERIES’ rear panel. Depending on your keyboard model, you can find further information and requirements below:

KOMPLETE KONTROL MK2

In order to use the KOMPLETE KONTROL MK2 keyboard as stand-alone MIDI controller, you have to disconnect the USB connection from your computer and use a NI Power Supply. The power supply is available in our NI Webshop.

The knobs and the buttons on the keyboard send out the default MIDI CC messages. You can find the MIDI Assignments of the Keybed and Knobs of the MK2 in the KOMPLETE KONTROL MK2 manual in chapter 9.4. "Using the Keyboard as Stand-Alone MIDI Controller". Please note that the default MIDI mapping is not editable.

KOMPLETE KONTROL MK1

In order to use the KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series as stand-alone MIDI controller, you have to disconnect the USB connection from your computer and use the NI Power Supply. Additionally, the software and firmware must meet the following requirements:

  • Firmware 56 or higher has to be installed on the KOMPLETE KONTROL MK1 keyboard. You can download the 'Device Updater for KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series 1.1.2' from this page. You can find further instructions on how to update a firmware in this article.
  • Controller Editor 1.8.0 or higher has to be installed on your computer. The latest Controller Editor version is included in the latest KOMPLETE KONTROL software update. You can install it with Native Access.

The keybed and the controls on the keyboard send out MIDI messages according to the default Template for stand-alone operation. You can change the default Template in the Controller Editor by right-clicking the Template and selecting Set as Standalone Default from the menu:
