This article explains how to change the Step Sequencer's grid resolution in MASCHINE 2. This is useful if you want to vary the note lengths for programming your patterns. For example, faster hi-hats can be drawn on a 1/32 grid or you can create polyrhythms using a triplet grid like 1/4T or 1/8T.
Change the Step Grid from the MASCHINE Controller
- Press the GRID button on the TRANSPORT section of your controller to access the GRID menu.
- Select STEP mode in the left display. The right display shows you the available grid values for the STEP mode. Choose the desired step length by pressing the corresponding pad on your controller. In this example we choose a resolution of 1/32.
Change the Step Grid in the Software
You can also change your Pattern's step resolution within the software by opening the Step Grid Menu. This setting will determine the Step Sequencer's step length.
- Open the Step Grid Menu located in the bottom left-hand corner of the Pattern Editor.
- Select the desired Step Grid resolution.
