This article explains how to configure your MIDI settings in the standalone version of Kontakt. This includes selecting and configuring your MIDI interface's input and output routing of connected MIDI Controller devices.
Note: In case you are using Kontakt as a plug-in in your DAW, the MIDI settings are being managed in the DAW's preferences.
Activating your MIDI Device
- Open the Options dialog by clicking FILE > Options...
On earlier Kontakt versions, click the Options icon to open the Options dialog: - In the Options window, click the MIDI tab. The Inputs section displays all MIDI input devices detected on your system. As seen in the screenshot below, these are not yet activated; their status is set to "Off".
- Click on the status display next to your MIDI device's name and select the Kontakt MIDI port you want to assign your MIDI device to. In this example, we assign our MIDI keyboard Origin25 to Kontakt's Port A.
Defining a MIDI Port and Channel for your Kontakt Instrument
When loading a Kontakt Instrument into the Rack, a MIDI Port and MIDI Channel will automatically be assigned to the Instrument. This information is displayed in the Midi Ch box in the Instrument Header. In this example, the Instrument is assigned to Port [A] and to MIDI Channel 1.
When loading more than one Instrument to the Rack, Kontakt automatically assigns the next available MIDI channel to any additional Instrument. If you want to change this assignment, open the Midi Channel drop-down menu from the Instrument's Header and select the MIDI Port and Channel you want to use for this particular Instrument.
Note: when selecting omni as MIDI Channel, the Instrument will respond to all incoming MIDI messages, independently of the MIDI Port and Channel your keyboard or controller is set to.
