In this article, we explain how to save your custom Instruments or Presets in Reaktor.
After you've made some edits to a Reaktor Ensemble, there are 3 ways that you can save your sound.
1. Save your DAW Project
Note: This option is available in the free Player and the full license version of Reaktor.
If using Reaktor within a DAW, you would just need to save your DAW project. All edits to Reaktor are stored and recalled within the project file.
This is the quickest way to save the state of Reaktor, but sometimes you may need to save and store a Reaktor preset file (e.g. if moving the tracks to a different DAW). Please see the next section below to learn how to save a Reaktor Preset file.
2. Save a User Preset File
Note: This option is available in the free Player and the full license version of Reaktor.
- In the Reaktor drop menu, go to File and select Save Preset As.
- Type in a name for your custom Preset (.nrkt) file and click Save in the pop-up window.
Note: We recommend saving the Preset file in the default User Content folder suggested by Reaktor. Please see the next section 2.1 below for more details.
- Your custom preset will now appear in the User portion of the Preset Browser on the left. All of the Preset files saved with the current instrument will appear in the User list.
Note: Your custom presets will also be available in other instances of Reaktor Player, e.g. when loading Reaktor on another track or in a different DAW.
2.1. Accessing Your Preset Files
If you need to access the preset files directly (e.g. to back them up), you will find your custom Preset (.nrkt) files at the following location of your computer:
macOS:
Macintosh HD > Users > *Your User Name* > Documents > Native Instruments > User Content
Windows:
C: > Users > *Your User Name* > Documents > Native Instruments > User Content
A folder representing the name of the Reaktor instrument is created in the User Content folder leading to your Preset files. In this example, we find our custom Reaktor Factory preset for Carbon 2 in the computer's Documents (on macOS and Windows).
Important: If moving your custom Preset files to a different computer, the same Reaktor content must also be installed on the other computer.
3. Save a User Ensemble File
Note: This option is available only in the full license version of Reaktor.
Users of the Full version of Reaktor can save new copies of Reaktor Ensemble (.ens) files. Keeping with our Reaktor Factory example, this chapter will show you how to save a custom version of the Carbon 2 Ensemble.
- In the Reaktor drop menu, go to File and select Save As.
- In the Save dialog, enter a name for your custom Ensemble and choose the default Ensembles folder in the System Documents to Save the file.
Macintosh HD > Users > *Your User Name* > Documents > Native Instruments > Reaktor 6 > Ensembles
Windows:
C: > Users > *Your User Name* > Documents > Native Instruments > Reaktor 6 > Ensembles - Your custom Ensemble will now appear in the User portion of the Player Browser on the left. All of the Ensemble files you saved will appear in this list.
Note: Your custom Ensembles will also be available in other instances of Reaktor, e.g. when loading Reaktor on another track or in a different DAW.
3.1. About Custom Snapshots
If you've created your own Custom Snapshots, these will be stored when you save your custom Ensemble file (steps 1-3 above). To learn more about Snapshot handling in Reaktor, please see this article.
3.2. About Auto-Saving Ensembles
When using the Reaktor plug-in (Full Version) in a DAW, there's an option to auto-save the Ensemble being used. To learn more about auto-saving your Reaktor Ensembles, please see this article.
