Preparing your Reaktor 6 User Ensembles for Komplete Kontrol

This article will guide you through the required steps to add a Reaktor 6 Ensemble to the Komplete Kontrol Browser. The following instructions apply to both User Ensembles and Library Ensembles. We will demonstrate this using the JUNO-60 Ensemble available from the Reaktor User Library on our Website.

Note: If you want to prepare your User Ensembles with Reaktor 5 read this article.

1. Preparing the Ensemble in Reaktor 6

In order to ensure that your downloaded User Ensembles are accessible via the User tab in Reaktor, we recommend installing them in the following location:

  • Mac: Macintosh HD > User > *Username* > Documents > Native Instruments > Reaktor 6 > Ensembles
  • Windows: C: > User > *Username* > Documents > Native Instruments > Reaktor 6 > Ensembles

1.1 Defining the Bank Name

First of all, name your ensemble as you want it to appear in the Komplete Kontrol Browser. In this example, we are using the JUNO-60 User Ensemble, which we will rename JUNO-60 for KK. To do this:

  1. Switch to Reaktor's Edit Mode.

  2. Click on Reaktor's Properties tab (checkbox icon), and then the Function tab.

  3. Scroll down to BANK PATH and name the Bank as you want it to appear in in the Komplete Kontrol Browser. Here we are naming it JUNO-60 for KK:

    You can also define a Sub-Bank name if you want to further categorize your ensembles in the Komplete Kontrol browser.

1.2 Tagging the Reaktor Ensemble as 'Instrument'

Once the bank name is defined (in our example JUNO-60 for KK), you need tag your Snapshots as 'Instrument'.

  1. Open the Snapshot menu and click on Embedded to display the banks and presets:

  2. Right-click on any of the Snapshots listed and choose Show Meta Info:

  3. Again, right-click on any Snapshot that you want to appear in Komplete Kontrol and select NI Meta Info > Instrument.

    Note: If loading a Reaktor effect Ensemble, you can choose Effect instead of Instrument so that the Ensemble appears in the corresponding browser field in Komplete Kontrol.

  4. Repeat this procedure for all the Snapshots you wish to add to Komplete Kontrol's Browser. If you want to tag all the Snapshots in the Bank simultaneously, select the first Snapshot, hold Shift on your keyboard and select the last Snapshot. Then right-click any of them and select the Instrument tag.
  5. In order to make the changes permanent, choose Save from Reaktor's File Menu.

1.3 Define Reaktor Panelsets for Komplete Kontrol's Default and Additional Plug-in Views (optional)

For an optimal integration of your Reaktor User Ensemble to Komplete Kontrol, you can define Default and Additional Plug-in views. These views are based on the Panelsets of your Ensemble. For Komplete Kontrol to recognize a Default and Additional view for your Ensemble, there must be at least two Panelsets.

Note: If you skip this part of the procedure, Komplete Kontrol will simply take the first Panelset, corresponding to the last saved state of your Ensemble. If you have more than 2 Panelsets defined for your Ensemble, Komplete Kontrol will only recognize the first two.

Panelsets are especially useful when an Ensemble includes more than one Instrument, as they can be used to quickly cycle between different panel configurations of the Instruments. More information can be found in the chapter 'Panelsets' in Reaktor 6' s Diving Deeper manual. Since the JUNO-60 Ensemble has only one Panel to view, this step can be skipped.

2. Copying your Reaktor User Ensemble to Komplete Kontrol's User Content Folder

Once your User Ensemble is optimized for Komplete Kontrol, you can close Reaktor 6. Copy the JUNO-60 Ensemble to the Komplete Kontrol User Content folder. Once the Reaktor Ensemble is located in the User Content folder, you can Rescan the folder in Komplete Kontrol to add the Ensemble to the database. The content will then be displayed in the Browser.

  1. Go to your Reaktor User Ensembles folder, and copy the "JUNO-60.ens" Ensemble file. By default, the Reaktor User Ensemble folder is located here on your computer:
    • Mac: Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name*> Documents > Native Instruments > Reaktor 6 > Library > Ensembles
    • Win: C: > Users > *User Name* > My Documents > Native Instruments > Reaktor 6 > Library > Ensembles

  2. Paste the "Juno-60.ens" file into the Komplete Kontrol User Content folder. By default, this folder is located here:
    • Mac: Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name*> Documents > Native Instruments > User Content
    • Win: C: > Users > *User Name* > My Documents > Native Instruments > User Content

3. Loading the User Ensemble in Komplete Kontrol

  1. Open Komplete Kontrol and navigate to Preferences > Library > User. The User Content folder is listed here by default.
  2. Press the Rescan button in order to update the database with the new content of the folder, which now contains your User Ensemble.

    Note: We recommend enabling the option Scan user content for changes at start-up so that Komplete Kontrol will automatically add any new User Ensembles when starting.

  3. Close the Preferences. Under the Library tab of the Browser click on the User icon and choose Reaktor from your list of Instruments.

  4. Under the Reaktor Bank you will see your User Ensemble appear as a Sub-Bank, in our example JUNO-60 for KK. Below, you will see your User Ensemble's Snapshots which can now be loaded in Komplete Kontrol.
