This article explains how to create additional outputs in KONTAKT in order to route signals to multiple tracks in a sequencer. There are different scenarios where this could be useful:
- You want to use your sequencer's track parameters like panorama and volume or effects for single KONTAKT Instruments.
- To reduce CPU load, you want to load only one instance of KONTAKT containing several Instruments instead of loading one KONTAKT instance for each Instrument.
- Load an instance of KONTAKT and make the mixer visible (if it is hidden) by ticking Outputs in the KONTAKT Workspace menu:
- Click the '+' button to open the Outputs dialog:.
- In the Quantity field, define how many new outputs you wish to create. In this example we create 1 new output.
- In the Number of channels field, define how many channels each output should have. In this example we wish to create a new stereo output, so we choose 2 channels (left and right).
- In the Soundcard / Host output menu, define the first channel your new outputs will take. We wish to keep the first stereo channel (Kt. st. 1), so we choose Kt. aux 1.
- Confirm with Ok.
- The new channel is added to the Outputs section:
- If you wish to load the new output configuration each time you start KONTAKT, open the menu Presets / Batch Configuration, go to Save current output section state as default for and select either All Formats or the application format you want to define this setting for. You can save different output sections independently for the formats VST, AAX, Audio Unit (AU) and for the standalone application. This might be useful if you prefer to use different output setups in different hosts (e.g. 8 stereo outputs in Logic and 4 stereo outputs in Ableton Live).
- You can select the new output in the Output section of your KONTAKT Instruments now:
- If you define the selected output as input for an audio track in your host sequencer, the Instrument will be played back via this track. Since the multi-output configuration is different for each sequencer, please refer to your sequencers manual for further information on this.
