Selecting Your Audio Device
- Open the Studio menu and choose Studio Setup...
Note: previous to Cubase 9.5 this option was called Devices and Device Setup.
- Select the VST Audio System options under Devices.
- Choose your audio interface from the ASIO Driver drop-down menu.
- Once the ASIO driver for your audio interface has been selected, close the Device Setup by clicking OK.
Adding an Output Bus
- Open the Studio menu and choose Audio Connections.
- Select the Outputs tab and click the Add Bus button.
Note: if you already set up buses that did not work correctly, right-click them one after the other and select Remove Bus.
- Set Configuration to Stereo and Count to 1. Under Bus Name you can rename your Bus; in our example we have called it Additional Bus. Click Add Bus to create the bus.
- This has now added a new Stereo Out bus to the mixer. You can route audio from this output into your Native Instruments audio interface. Depending on which Native Instruments soundcard you are using, your outputs should be set up now. You can however select the outputs of your choice from the Device Port drop down menu.
Note: Normally you want to choose the main stereo outputs of your audio interface. More sophisticated setups may require you to choose different outputs or even add more busses for flexible routing options.
Adding an Input Bus
- Open the Studio menu and select Audio Connections.
- Select the Inputs tab and click the Add Bus button.
Note: if you already set up buses that did not work correctly, right-click them one after the other and select Remove Bus.
- If you need stereo connections going into Cubase (e.g. mixer output, stereo synth), set Configuration to Stereo and Count to 1. If you need mono connections going into Cubase (e.g. microphones), set Configuration to Mono and Count to 2. Under Bus Name you can rename your Input Bus; in our example we have called it Additional Bus. Click Add Bus to create the bus.
- This has now added a new Stereo in or two Mono Ins,. You can route audio from your Native Instruments audio interface into Cubase via this input for the purpose of recording. Next, click in the Device Port column to select the audio inputs of your interface for your new input buses.
