Native Instruments Expansions are sound packs that contain presets for a range of Native Instruments products and samples / loops that can be used in any DAW (e.g. Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Cubase, etc.) This article explains how to load Expansion presets and samples in your DAW project.
1. Preset Preparation
After the installation of an Expansion, the following products must be started in standalone mode to integrate the new presets in their database:
- MASSIVE
- BATTERY 4
- MASCHINE 2
- KOMPLETE KONTROL
By default, the standalone applications are located here:
- Mac: Macintosh HD > Applications > Native Instruments > *product name*
- Win: C: > Program Files > Native Instruments > *product name*
2. Loading an Expansion Kit / Preset in your DAW
Load the corresponding NI product as a plug-in on an instrument track in your DAW and proceed as explained in the following articles:

3. Loading Audio Samples and Loops
The samples and loops contained in an Expansion are audio files in wav-format that can be used as any other audio sample in your daw project. Simply navigate to the install location of your Expansion and open the "Samples" folder. By default, the Samples folder is located here:
- Mac: Macintosh HD > Users > Shared > *Expansion name* > Samples
- Windows: Users > Public > Public Documents > *Expansion name* > Samples
