Symptom
There is no sound output when using GUITAR RIG.
Solutions
Note: GUITAR RIG is an FX application and not a sound generator. In order to output sound, an audio signal (e.g. a guitar) must be processed by GUITAR RIG.
If you cannot hear anything when playing a signal through GUITAR RIG, there may be an issue with either the input or output signal.
Click on the link below for your version of GUITAR RIG and follow the steps to resolve the issue.
GUITAR RIG 6
Allow GUITAR RIG Full Disk and Microphone Access (macOS Only)
On macOS, it may be necessary to allow your system Full Disk Access and Microphone Access to GUITAR RIG. Please follow the instructions in these 2 articles:
Verifying the Input Signal
When playing your guitar into GUITAR RIG, the input meter in the GUITAR RIG header should display a signal level.
If the input meter is not displaying any signal level, follow the steps below:
- Make sure that the volume of your guitar is turned up and the guitar is connected to the audio interface input that you wish to use.
- Make sure the input gain of your audio interface (if available) is turned up.
Note: Steps 3 and 4 apply to the standalone version only. In the GUITAR RIG plug-in version, the routing is configured in the DAW.
- Open the Preferences panel from the File menu and switch to the Audio tab.
- Select your audio interface from the Device menu. In this example, we have selected Komplete Audio 6 MK2.
- Next, click the Inputs tab. Select the audio interface input your guitar is connected to. In this example, we are using Guitar Rig 6 In L, since our guitar is connected to 1: Input 1 (the input name may be different on your computer, depending on which audio interface is used).
- Make sure that the corresponding input button (L or R) next to the input level meter is active. In this example, the L button is active because the guitar is connected to the L input (see previous step).
- Turn the Input Gain slider to the right in the GUITAR RIG header.
You should now see an input signal.
Verifying the Output Signal
When playing your guitar into GUITAR RIG, the output meter in the GUITAR RIG header should display a signal level.
If the output meter is not displaying any signal level, follow the steps below:
Note: Step 1 applies to the standalone version only. In the GUITAR RIG plug-in version, the routing is configured in the DAW.
- Open the Preferences panel from the File menu and switch to the Audio tab, then click the Outputs button. Select the audio interface outputs that your speakers are connected to. In this example, the speakers are connected to the outputs 1: Output 1 and 2: Output 2 of the audio interface (the output name might be different on your computer depending on which audio interface is used).
- Open the TUNER component by clicking the "tuning fork symbol" in the GUITAR RIG header and check if the Mute button is active. If so, this will block the audio signal from passing through GUITAR RIG! Click the Mute button, so it turns grey. This is to unmute the tuner.
- Open the PRESET VOLUME component by clicking the PRST button (vertical bar-lines) in the GUITAR RIG header and expand it by clicking the expand-tab button on the far-right side of the rack unit. Turn up the Volume slider as well as the Dry and Wet sliders.
- Ensure that the Master Volume slider is set to an acceptable level in the GUITAR RIG header.
- If your Studio Monitors or Speakers feature a volume control, make sure this volume is also turned up.
You should now see (and hear) an output signal.
