In this article, we will explain how to use the Automatic Saving feature for Reaktor Ensembles in your DAW.
Note: The Automatic Saving feature is available only in the full license version of Reaktor. If using the free Reaktor Player, see this article for more information about saving presets.
Do I need to use Automatic Saving in Reaktor?
Before proceeding, please be aware that Automatic Saving is only required under certain conditions in Reaktor. See the examples below, describing when to use Automatic Saving.
|
Auto-Save Required? |
|
If adding custom Snapshots to the Ensemble |
|
Custom Snapshots must be stored in the Ensemble (.ens) file. This is not saved with the DAW project. |
If changing or "re-wiring" the Ensemble structure |
|
Changes to the Ensemble structure must be stored in the Ensemble (.ens) file. This is not saved with the DAW project. |
If making simple edits to front-panel parameters (e.g. Knobs and Sliders) |
|
Front panel parameter edits are saved and recalled with the DAW project. |
Enabling the Automatic Saving Feature
Follow these steps to enable and use Automatic Saving in Reaktor:
- Open a DAW project and Load an Ensemble into the Reaktor Plug-In.
Note: The Automatic Saving feature is only available in the plug-in version of Reaktor in your DAW.
- Click the EDIT tab at the top of the Reaktor window.
- Make some edits to the Reaktor Ensemble Snapshots List and/or the Ensemble Structure. When finished, click the Automatic Saving (HOST) Tab. This tab will display in White when active.
Note: If the Automatic Saving (HOST) tab is not visible at the top of Reaktor, click the EDIT tab again to enable it.
- Choose a location to store your custom Ensemble (.ens) file. We recommend that you store the Ensemble in the same folder that contains your DAW project file.
Now, when your DAW project is saved, the changes made to the Reaktor Snapshots List, Ensemble Structure, and all other parameter edits are automatically saved.
Important: if using multiple instances of ReaktorReaktorReaktor in your DAW project, the Automatic Saving process must be enabled separately in each instance of the Reaktor plug-in.
Notes on Disabling the Automatic Saving Feature
You can always disable the Automatic Saving feature in Reaktor by re-clicking the Automatic Saving (HOST) tab when it's active. This tab will display in Grey when disabled.
If the Automatic Saving feature is disabled, your typical front-panel edits to Reaktor (e.g. Knob / Slider tweaks) are still saved along with your DAW project. However, all further edits made to the Snapshot List / Ensemble Structure will no longer be auto-saved with the DAW project. The Save tab (Disk Icon) will display in Red after these edits (which cannot be saved with the DAW project) are made.
You can manually save these Ensemble edits by clicking the Red Save tab (Disk Icon) and those edits will be applied to the auto-saved Ensemble.
You can re-enable the Automatic Saving feature by clicking the Automatic Saving (HOST) tab again. You would need to choose a folder location to store the Ensemble again. You can choose the same folder as before to replace the Ensemble or choose a new location if needed.
