How to Save Plug-In Chains in Komplete Kontrol

In this article, we explain how to save and recall FX plug-in chains in Komplete Kontrol.

A plug-in chain in Komplete Kontrol consists of an Instrument plug-in (i.e. "soft synth" or sample player) followed by audio effects (FX) plug-ins such as Chorus, Delay, Reverb, etc.

Follow the steps below for either the standalone or plug-in versions of the Komplete Kontrol software.

Saving with Komplete Kontrol in a DAW

When using Komplete Kontrol within your DAW, you just need to save your DAW project. All edits to the Instrument preset and chained effects will be stored and recalled within the DAW project file.

Saving with Komplete Kontrol in Standalone Mode

Follow this chapter if you've created a plug-in chain with Komplete Kontrol in standalone mode and wish to recall the same plug-in chain with Komplete Kontrol in your DAW.

1. About Komplete Kontrol Preset Files

The plug-ins chained in Komplete Kontrol are saved individually using the File menu. This allows each part of the chain to be accessed in the User Instruments and FX sections of the Komplete Kontrol Browser.

You can store each part of the plug-in chain to open them with Komplete Kontrol in your DAW later. In this example, Massive is loaded into Komplete Kontrol (Standalone mode) followed by Bite and Replika inserted as effects.

2. Saving the Chained Plug-Ins 

  1. Click the Plug symbol to open the Plug-In Chain Panel and select the first instrument slot (e.g. Massive).

  2. In the Komplete Kontrol drop menu, go to File > Save As.
  3. Type in a name for the custom preset and click Save in the pop-up window.

  4. Repeat this process with each of the effect plug-ins that follow. In this example, we save additional user presets for Bite and Replika.

  5. Quit the Komplete Kontrol software after saving your presets.

3. Reloading the Plug-In Chain in your DAW

  1. Open a new project for your DAW and load Komplete Kontrol on an instrument track.
  2. Open the Komplete Kontrol plug-in window and click the Plug symbol to display the Plug-In Chain Panel.
  3. Click the User icon on the Komplete Kontrol Browser to load your saved Instrument preset.

  4. In the Plug-In Chain Panel, click the empty area to the right of the first instrument (e.g. Massive). This opens access to the Komplete Kontrol FX (effects) Browser. Click the User icon to load your saved effect preset.

    Note: Repeat this process to load each of your effects presets that follow.

  5. Use your keyboard or controller to play what's loaded in Komplete Kontrol to verify that everything sounds right.
  6. Save your DAW project and everything loaded in Komplete Kontrol will be recalled when the project is reopened.
