    Hello all,

the firmware updates for the S2 MK3 and the S3 which include MIDI mode were officially released. Please find instructions in these corresponding Knowledge Base articles:

How to Switch Your TRAKTOR KONTROL S3 to MIDI Mode

Note: this firmware is ONLY for the S2 MK3 and the S3. There is no firmware update for the S4 MK3 that will add MIDI mode at this time.

    Hey Alex,

We are working on implementing this feature in future releases. Please keep a look out for this feature in the changelogs.

    Cheers,

    N/A N/A

Just bought the S2 MK3 but I can't use it with other software! Not making a good impression. I want to use other software as I'm just starting out and find other's simpler to use, but with the intention of switching as I get used to it. At this rate I'll skip Traktor, return the controller and buy something else which would be a shame.

Please could you provide an update on when MIDI will be supported for this controller.

    Thank you

    HELLO,
This situation is seriously uncomfortable. PLEASE NATIVE INSTRUMENTS. I am a Dj who works on Cruise ships. I bought Traktor Pro 3 on Released day paying 49 dollars. Yesterday I bought S2MK3. I personally dont have problem to spend money because i use it for my job. But WE really need to use Midi Mode to use devices more functional. PLEASE show us the way to ENABLE midi mode in S2MK3. Also i would like to know if Traktor Dj 2 is coming soon or not?
    Thank You!

Just stumbled across this and wanted to chip in. The S2 Mk3 is great with Traktor 3 but the ability to get Midi out to use with other software would be amazing. It's already implemented in my X1 Mk2 (which I also love!) so I assumed that it would also be there in the S2 Mk3.

Today is May 8th and I just purchased my new Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk3

I arrive at this forum to discover there is no way to map my new controller to 3rd party software.

I use different software for different gigs.

This thread was started 5 months ago. Come on NI - when will midi mode become available?

Come on NI! GIVE US AN ANSWER.
we all need this. If not I'll just have to return the product and get a pioneer...

Sadly, my controller is back in it's box, and back to the store at the weekend.

I've been holding out for so long and was hoping Midi mode would have been added alongside the new DJ 2 app but it hasn't. I'm sure there have been at least 2 updates since your team said it would be arriving in the 'next update'! I normally love NI but this is by far the most disappointed i've been.

The only reason I can think of for holding back the feature is to get people to use the new DJ 2 app (as streaming music was one of the most requested features) but the app is limited in so many ways. Aside from that I just don't understand why you would hold back the potential of such a good controller, especially when pretty much every other controller on the market can do it.

Considering this is advertised to be a casual, portable device ready for parties etc, but the only software you can use is Traktor... it just doesn't seem right. The lack of Midi mode is the main thing stopping me from recommending this controller.

I'm another S2 mk3 purchaser that's really cross about this. What's going on NI? I need this controller to link to my DAW for a whole lot more time than I'm DJing. Can we have an update please?

i have talked to the german support. they said, that they wouldn't implement the midi feature in the next time. they want the user to use only traktor with there controllers. they're stubborn and narrow minded

It's incredible - how anybody in it's right mind would like to have their customers find out the deck they just bought has not a BASIC FUNCTIONALITY that any other deck in the market has?? NI, at least be sincere about it and specify it in the list of "features". It's a very stupid marketing strategy - well, unless you want angry customers, returned decks, and giving money to Pioneer. In that case, you're doing it right!

Returned mine, got a DDJ 400 which is all that I expected... Terrible customer service.

Just wanted to add my voice here. I too would not have bought this product if I'd know Midi mode would not work. Really sucks that there is no official update on this thread.

Just bought an S2 Mk3 as my first controller. Considering returning it if I can’t take it to my friends’ and use their software/computer. Is there absolutely no way around this??

Only Traktor or VirtualDJ8 with a subscription.

Locking MIDI functionality does not make sense in a number of ways. Whoever buys an S2 is already getting Traktor Pro for free and frankly it's the best DJ suite to use with it so there's hardly any need to lock other software out.
However, IF people need to be operating different software regularly (for whatever reason) they will switch to an open MIDI competitor sooner or later.
Shouldn't be too hard to realize this NI?

It would be excellent to use this controller with software such as Max MSP, Logic and Live!

That as well. For casual DAW use it could come in pretty handy, and those users will not be buying a separate MIDI controller so it could well be a factor on which DJ controller to get.

I had a S2 MK1, and I just had a S2 MK3 as my birthday gift. It's been extremely disappointing to search how to enable midi mode and find all the threads like this one. Come on NI, you should specify somewhere that there's no midi mode, or at least be sincere about if there will be an update that enables it or not. It's not fair to your customers and has made me lose the trust I had on your company. Very very disappointing.

So, direct question for NI: how come S1 and S2 had midi mode, and S3 has not?

Totally agree with your points Dave. I looked at documentation for MK2, saw Midi Mode and assumed it would be present in MK3. It would be great to get some clarification on this NI.

In post from Dominick @ NI on Jan 9th:

We are working on implementing this feature in future releases. Please keep a look out for this feature in the changelogs.

Is there an update on this?

I don't think that's true. If they were really going to implement it, they would solve the complaints by stating it. Instead they close the threads asking about the midi mode, not allowing any more comments. You just have to do a search here in the forum. That's the behavior of a company that clearly knows it's doing something its customers won't like. If not, why the effort to hide it?
As I said, it's been a real disappointment. I thought NI was a good company.

I don't even think they'll answer about why S1 and S2 had midi mode and S3 doesn't. If they do, that would be a great surprise.
