We are investigating, currently we think this has to do with Ableton Live using the GPU as well as Massive X using the GPU to render the interface.  If the GPU heats up too much it can cause the CPU to heat up and then the OS may throttle the CPU which will seriously degrade performance.

As far as I understand it, the new MacBook Pros do this when they detect an AVX heavy workload, this is to maximise thermal throughput. AVX is only really used for computationally heavy tasks that involve lots of number crunching (it’s basically optimised matrix operations), just so happens that Massive X uses AVX instructions.

    i have a macbook pro 2014 13" 2.8ghz dual core i5  High sierra 10.13.6 ableton live 10.1

i have noticed that as well, the fan going full blast as soon as massive x is open..... I've also notice that a lot of CPU is going to the GUI... if you hide the plugin it drops the cpu like 10%(depending on patch, try and see if that helps... if i hide the GUI and play one of massive x factory presets it uses the expected amount of cpu. have the GUI open and play a preset and ableton's CPU goes nuts and dropouts occur..... haven't been able to make any presets cause the cpu goes nuts when the GUI is open

Thanks for sharing your comments guys.

Fingers crossed NI will fully investigate this!

    Hello

Just opened Massive X under the latest  Mojabe and Mac Book pro 2012. Cached Ableton latest Live 9 version so I had to rebuild the database through application support.

Opened it agan the CPU stared to run like mad then crashes the Ableton Live project of 1 track.

Then I opened Battery 4 and Massive X 2 tracks crashed again.

Good start of Complete 12 bundle.

Not recommended. It will kill your Mac.

same here. (macbook pro mid 2015, i7 16gb, iris pro, mojave). if massive x gui is on screen the cpu temperature goes up to 90and more celsius. if the gui is minimised it works fine (yeah, not convenient).

Same issue, on my end, ableton with massive X pushes the CPU to the highest from my testing but doesn't crackle or pop. Sadly that isn't my main DAW and any other DAW I have tried Massive X in has horrible distortion and pops on top of extreme CPU loads that are slightly less high than ableton but pushing the activity monitor to still well over 100%

I really hope NI is working to at least lessen the cpu fan when having the GUI open...... the new update was a step in the right direction...... with the new update the fan runs maybe 10% slower when the GUI is open.. and i do wish the arrow buttons that switch between wavetables would switch through all the wavetables not just the subfolders of wavetables.. and a more visual Envelope.

We are investigating.  I don't have anything super positive to report right now, but we hope to be able to further improve performance.

    Best,

    Jeff

Hello Massive X team ! One song and 40 % of CPU . It's too much. I could not work with it. Maybe you should ad the possibility to have less quality like the DIVA. Best

Dear NATIVE INSTRUMENTS, IMPORTANT NEWS ON MASSIVE X 1.1

Now the problem (high temperature, cpu thottling in idle) happens only when I switch to che performa page, so when something is moving on gui. on the default massive x page everything works as expected.

Changing theme have no impact whatsoever on the cpu/gpu spikes.

    cheers

It is not Massive X.......it is Ableton Live 10. Mine does this even without using Massive X.....I contacted Ableton Live and they said that it is because of the way that Macbook Pro handles graphics between its 2 video cards......Ableton says that they have no plans on changing it either......right now all of my music production is dead in the water ...and has been for awhile because of this.

    ame problem here.

I bought Massive X and I can't use it because the cpu consumption goes off and I can't hear any sound with Massive X open. -- Maccbook Pro retina from early 2015

    - 2.7 GHz Intel Core Dual Core Processor

    - Memory 8GB 1867 MHz DDE3

    - macOS Catalina v. 10.15.2

    - Ableton 10

I need a quick solution or it would be nice if NI allowed to make a product change or money back...
