This article explains how to use Metadata Sync to automatically synchronize the Metadata of the music files contained in the TRAKTOR DJ collection across all of your iOS devices. The Metadata of your music files includes tag information like song titles, artist names and comments as well as tempo and beatgrid data, hotcues and loops.
Note: When Apple released iOS 7, a change was introduced that affected the Metadata Sync between TRAKTOR DJ and TRAKTOR (SCRATCH) PRO 2. For this reason, Metadata Sync has been removed from TRAKTOR (SCRATCH) PRO 2 on Windows and Mac OS X. While Metadata Sync between iOS devices with TRAKTOR DJ remains fully functional, you cannot sync metadata with the Mac and PC version of TRAKTOR any more.
Important Settings Prior to Enabling Metadata Sync
In order to prevent uncontrolled changes in the metadata of your music files, please verify the following settings before enabling Metadata Sync.
iTunes Match is an Apple service which performs an automatic detection of music files on your computer and distributes iTunes versions of the songs to your iOS devices and OS X computer systems. Using iTunes Match is not recommended when using TRAKTOR DJ and Metadata Sync, since the files distributed by iTunes Match may not be exact copies or even have different files formats.
- Deactivate iTunes Match on your iOS device:
Automatic Downloads for Music
For the same reasons as with iTunes Match, turn off Automatic Downloads for Music in the iTunes Store Preferences on your computer as well as any of the iOS devices you are using with TRAKTOR DJ. Add your purchases to the iOS devices via standard USB sync instead. If you purchased music on an iOS device, the songs will be automatically copied to your iTunes Music Library the next time you sync the iOS device with iTunes on the computer.

Setting up Dropbox
Dropbox is a cloud computing service which is used to synchronize TRAKTOR Metadata on your iOS devices. TRAKTOR DJ directly accesses your Dropbox account from the iOS device. The TRAKTOR Metadata Sync file structure will be set up in the Dropbox folder when you first enable Metadata Sync for TRAKTOR DJ on the iOS device. If you do not already have a Dropbox account, create one for free by downloading the App via the Apple Store.
Note: Dropbox is operated by Dropbox Inc, and therefore operates to their own Terms & Conditions.
Initial Metadata Sync
Before you initialize Metadata Sync, ensure you have updated iOS and TRAKTOR DJ to the latest available versions. You can check for updates in your iOS System Preferences > Software Updates.
The first Metadata Sync will pull together the Metadata created in all instances of TRAKTOR DJ across your iOS devices. In this process, you first have to define which instance of TRAKTOR DJ is holding the most current metadata information. This information will be written into the metadata of the corresponding music files on your other devices. The metadata will only be synchronized for music files which exist on all devices.
- Ensure Dropbox is installed on all iOS devices.
- Launch TRAKTOR DJ on the device holding your most current metadata information.
- Go to TRAKTOR DJ > Preferences > Dropbox
- Tap on Link Dropbox Account to begin the metadata transfer to Dropbox.
Note: Dropbox will ask you if TRAKTOR shall get permission to access the contents of your Dropbox. Confirm this by pressing Allow.
- When the initial Syncing Metadata... window launches, choose KEEP to ensure that the metadata on this iOS device will be kept and replace any existing metadata in the Dropbox folder.
- Now the metadata of your TRAKTOR DJ music files has been uploaded to your Dropbox and is ready to be synced with other iOS devices. TRAKTOR DJ will display the successful Metadata Sync with a corresponding timestamp in the Dropbox menu.
Regular Metadata Sync
TRAKTOR DJ pushes the Metadata to the Dropbox folder as soon as you close the app by pressing the Home button or switching to another app on the iOS device. It constantly reads from the Dropbox and checks for new Metadata while running. You can stop this behavior anytime by deactivating the Dropbox Sync slider in the TRAKTOR DJ > Preferences > Dropbox menu. Conversely, you can force metadata sync between devices at any time without the need to restart the App by tapping the Sync Now! button under Force Sync. Finally, you can unlink your Dropbox account by tapping Unlink Dropbox Account. This will stop Metadata Sync from the iOS device. You will also be able to link up another Dropbox account afterwards, if required.
